Communities for Local Green Deals

The Communities for Local Green Deals (COM4LGD) project aims to address the dual challenges of the climate crisis and social polarization in the European Union. The project focuses on fostering sustainable, inclusive, and democratic local community development across all 27 EU member states. It emphasizes community organizing, climate action, and collaboration between citizens and local governments as innovative solutions for a sustainable, just, democratic and inclusive future for the EU. Through transformative social innovation driven by socio-environmental justice values, implemented using inclusive deep debates, collective scenario planning, and gender mainstreaming, the project seeks to strengthen grassroots networks, promote democratic participation, improve policy accountability, and advocate for gender equality (focus on the inclusion of women, non-binary persons, and youth).

GOALS

  1.  TRANSNATIONAL NETWORK: Strengthen our transnational metanetwork of grassroots
    networks, local citizens’ community-oriented initiatives which implement in an integrated
    way deliberative, participatory democracy practices for the future of the EU and action on
    climate and environmental sustainability;
  2. ORGANISING AND ADVOCACY FOR DEMOCRACY: Improve the accountability and
    responsiveness of decision-makers and policy-makers to the needs and the solutions of
    the communities, and empower communities to organise and advocate for a just and
    effective implementation of the EGD
  3. CLIMATE AND SUSTAINABILITY ACTION: Empower European citizens and communities to
    become aware of and actively engaged in organising for climate and environmental
    justice and implementing sustainable solutions for the future
  4. GENDER EQUALITY: Promote gender equality as an essential condition for both ecological
    sustainability and inclusive, participatory and deliberative approaches for CLIs,
    community organising and community action in general.
